Mark Simonitch (born December 30, 1957 ) is an American game designer . His most famous games include Hannibal: Rome vs. Carthage and Ardennes '44 . In the 1990s he was an employee of Avalon Hill . Since then he has been with GMT Games . In 2002 he was inducted into the Charles S. Roberts Awards Hall of Fame .

Life

Simonitch grew up in Ross , California and studied at California Polytechnic State University . In 1966 he began playing with Avalon Hill's conflict simulations (Kosims) for the first time. From 1991 to 1994 he worked as a freelance graphic artist for various publishers, including Strategy & Tactics, Command Magazine, GMT Games, 3W, and Avalanche Games. He was involved in over a hundred wargames (Kosims), for which he designed game boards and counters. During this time he started his own publishing company, Rhino Game Company, and published three board games. In the spring of 1995 he moved to Baltimore , Maryland , where he worked for Avalon Hill until 1997. Since then he has been working as a graphic designer for GMT Games. His most famous games include Hannibal: Rome vs. Carthage and Ardennes '44 . In 2002 he was inducted into the Charles Roberts Awards Hall of Fame .
