The Sengbachtal nature reserve is located east of Oberwinkelhausen and south of Haid in the town of Wermelskirchen in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis .

The nature reserve consists of two parts

  1. between Ostringhausen and Bähringhausen
  2. between Hünger and Oberwinkelhausen.

It encompasses the entire Sengbach valley between the source at Wermelskirchen and the plan area border south of Oberwinkelhausen, including the side valleys and Siefen . The area is cut into two parts by the BAB 1 .

Protective purposes

The protection designation is for the preservation and development of a largely natural stream system as a richly structured biotope complex with natural wet, wet grassland and alluvial forest remains and old deciduous forest stands on the slopes as well as for the protection, care and development of the biotic communities of plants and habitats bound to these habitats Animals. The following protection purposes are specified in detail:

  • Securing the function as a biotope connection area of outstanding importance with connection areas and connecting elements,

  • Preservation and development of habitats, biotopes or communities of certain wild, characteristic and remarkable animal or plant species,
