The nature reserve Eifgenbachtal and Seitentäler is a nature reserve in the area of the city of Wermelskirchen in the Rheinisch-Bergisch district . A small part of the south belongs to the municipality of Odenthal .

Wermelskirchen
The nature reserve covers the entire Eifgenbachtal from the source northeast of Wermelskirchen to the municipal boundary of Odenthal. These include the side valleys near Kovelsberg and Assmannskotten , the Braunsberger Bachtal, the Bachtal near Pantholz , the Kolfhausener Bachtal, the Löher Bachtal system, the Hilgener Bachtal and several smaller side valleys in the south of the urban area of Wermelskirchen. Furthermore, the valley slopes , which are covered with hardwood and often broken up by sieves , are included.
Odenthal
The nature reserve extends in the municipality of Odenthal from the confluence of the Eifgenbach into the Dhünn north to the city limits of Wermelskirchen.
Protection goals
The protection expulsion has taken place
- For the maintenance and development of a coherent and largely near-natural stream valley system, which is particularly important for the regional biotope network, including its sources, the species-rich and valuable, in some cases fallow, grassland areas and the extensive ilex-rich beech stands and old wood stands with oaks and beeches on the slopes,
- For the preservation, development and care of the diverse biotope complex as a habitat for many rare and endangered plant and animal species,
- For the maintenance and development of wet and humid grassland, alluvial forests , riparian trees and near-natural source areas,
- To preserve the particularly valuable spring meadows and the unique moss flora that is important for the Rhineland ,
- To maintain a geoscientifically valuable former quarry with ripple marks near Bökershammer .
FFH area
The nature reserve Eifgenbachtal and side valleys with side valleys was created in accordance with Paragraph 48c LG in conjunction with Council Directive 92/43 / EEC of May 21, 1992 for the conservation of natural habitats and wild animals and plants (Habitats Directive) in accordance with Paragraph 20 sentence 1 letter a) LG as well as according to paragraph 20 sentence 2 LG because of the special importance of the area to the FFH and VS area DE-4809-301. The protection serves
a) To preserve the following natural habitats of community interest in accordance with Annex I of the Habitats Directive
- Alder , ash and softwood alluvial forests (91E0) as priority habitat,
- Hainsimsen-Buchenwald (9110)
- English oak - hornbeam forest (9160),
b) To restore the following natural habitats of Community interest in accordance with Annex I of the Habitats Directive
- Running waters with underwater vegetation (3260),
c) For the conservation of the following wild animal and plant species of Community interest in accordance with Annex II of the Habitats Directive
