Flora and fauna
The Eifgenbachtal and its side valleys have been a nature reserve since 2004 . It extends over the municipalities of Burscheid (110.6 ha) and Odenthal (350 ha). This places the underwater vegetation and the fish species river lamprey , brook lamprey and bullhead , as well as the dipper, under protection. Furthermore, the biotope types of the alder , ash and softwood alluvial forests as well as the stock of hornbeam beeches , common oaks and hornbeams were declared worthy of protection.
Previous use
Mills
On the course of the Eifgenbach there were several mills of regional historical significance, such as the Wellermühle , the Eipringhauser Mühle , the Frohntaler Hammer , the Bergermühle , the Finkenholler Mühle , the Neuemühle , the Hutzhammer , the Rausmühle , the Markusmühle , the powder mill under Lamerbusch , the Borrighauser Mühle near Bellinghausen and the Bökershammer .
Water hammers
In the Bökershammer in Eifgental , founded by Remscheid-based Clemens Boecker, there were still two refining hammers and a crude steel mill with two fresh fires around 1900.
Monument protection
The Eifgenbachtalsperre has aroused people's hearts in recent years because, despite the weir's monument status, it has been gradually demolished since 2001. A swastika relief on the weir was also removed.
Are located than on a ledge in Burscheid on the right bank ground monument protected remains of Eifgenburg , an early medieval fortress from the 10th century.
