The Eifgenbach and Seitentäler nature reserve is a nature reserve south of Hilgen between Markusmühle and Schöllerhof in the town of Burscheid in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis .

description

The nature reserve comprises the middle and lower reaches of the Eifgenbach up to the confluence with the Dhünn west of Schöllerhof. It is a notched valley with steep slopes and an average width of about 100 m. The Eifgenbach meanders in it with a width between 3 and 10 m. It is trained close to nature and is accompanied by alder and ash forests as well as high perennial and butterbur meadows . The valley floor is made of rich pastures , wetlands , leaner pastures and wet grassland fallow. To the west of the Luchtenberg homestead , the Eifgenbach splits in the area of a former pond into a multitude of arms that flow through extensive gravel, sand and mud banks. Here you can see willow bushes , nettle corridors and cane grasses spread out. A pond follows further south. From now on the valley narrows very noticeably. In the area of the former, now demolished Bökershammer, and further down the stream, one also encounters rocky impact slopes . In places the stream also flows in the surrounding rock. On the further way, several steep Siefentäler valleys with their source streams flow into the Eifgenbach from both sides .

Protection goals

Nature conservation serves to preserve and develop a coherent, largely natural stream valley system , which is extremely valuable for the biotope network, including its numerous tapering side depressions , grassland areas and accompanying natural hardwood stands. The protection goals serve

  • To maintain and develop a coherent and largely natural stream valley system that is particularly important for the regional biotope network, including its numerous tapering side depressions, grassland areas and accompanying natural hardwood stands ,
  • For the preservation, development and care of the diverse biotope complex as a habitat for many rare and endangered plant and animal species, the fish species river and brook lamprey , as well as the bullhead , should be mentioned here
  • For the maintenance and development of wet and humid grassland , alluvial forests , riparian wood and near-natural source areas,
  • For the preservation of spring areas as well as unique moss flora and habitat for ferns important for the Rhineland ,
  • To preserve a geoscientifically valuable former quarry with ripple marks in the vicinity of Bökershammer.

FFH area

Part of the nature reserve is also part of the FFH area Dhünn and Eifgenbach (area number DE-4809-301). These are mainly the Eifgenbach and adjacent bank areas.
