GMT Games
GMT Games is an American manufacturer of board games . He specializes in strategic board games . The company was founded in 1990. The name results from the first letters of the first names of the three founders Gene Billingsley, Mike Crane and Terry Shrum. The latter two soon left the company to found their own company, the Fresno Gaming Association . Three games were published in the first year of publishing. The most successful game to date, Twilight Struggle, simulates the Cold War from 1945 to 1989 and belongs to the card-driven game genre .
The games from GMT have been produced according to the Project 500 process since the mid / late 1990s , as the games produced have not sold as well as it would be necessary to work economically. Customers can pre-order a game at a special price before production begins. Only from 500 pre-orders (there are now also other models such as P750 or P1000) the so-called cut is reached and the game is produced. This reduces the publisher's financial risk. P500 is effectively an early form of crowdfunding .
