Markar Esayan

Markar Esayan (* 1969 in Istanbul ) is an Armenian-born Turkish writer and journalist.

He received his primary education at the Armenian Catholic Bomonti Mıhitaryan School and completed his high school education at the Özel Getronagan Ermeni Lisesi . In 1995 he completed his studies in business administration at Anadolu University . Since 1997 he has been writing in the Armenian-Turkish newspaper Agos and since 2001 he has written columns there with the title Dar Kapı .

Markar Esayan's first novel was Şimdinin Dar Odası , which won the 2004 Grand Prix ( Büyük Ödülü ) from İnkılâp Kitapevi and was published in 2005. His second novel Karşılaşma was presented to the public in October 2007. Esayan is currently writing for the Taraf newspaper . He was the publishing coordinator, columnist, and 2007 publisher and editor of the newspaper. He is currently writing for the AKP- affiliated newspaper Yeni Şafak .

In the parliamentary elections in June 2015 , Esayan ran for the AKP and was elected to the Turkish parliament (alongside Garo Paylan from the HDP and Selina Doğan from the CHP ) as one of the first Armenians since Berç Turan's election in 1964. He was re-elected in the new election in November .
