Selina Özuzun Doğan

Selina Doğan ( Armenian Սելինա Օզուզուն Տողան , born January 1, 1977 as Selina Özuzun ) is a Turkish lawyer and politician of Armenian ethnicity. As a member of the Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi, she became one of the first Armenian members of the Turkish Parliament since 1964.

Family life

She was born in Istanbul in 1977 as the daughter of the Deputy Mayor of Bakırköy , Yervant Özuzun . After completing her secondary education at the French grammar school Lycée Notre Dame de Sion Istanbul , she studied and graduated from Galatasaray University and completed her master’s degree from Istanbul Bilgi University . She then began her professional career in a law firm and was a lawyer for minority foundations.

In addition to Armenian and Turkish, she speaks French and English.

Political career

Selina Özuzun Doğan was the candidate of the Republican People's Party (CHP) for the parliamentary elections in June 2015 . After an agreement to nominate minorities to represent them in parliament, party leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu put their name on the list of candidates for the second constituency of Istanbul .

On June 7, 2015, she was elected to the Turkish Grand National Assembly and thus became the first Armenian MP since the election of Berç Turan in 1961 - together with Garo Paylan ( HDP ) and Markar Esayan ( AKP ). Besides Hermine Kalustyan, who spent six months in the Constituent Assembly of Turkey ( Kurucu Meclis in Turkish ) after the military coup in 1960 , she is the only female Armenian MP in Turkish history. She was re-elected in the new election in November .

Facing the Armenian genocide of 1915 she said that these possess not a priority for them, the cultural genocide but stopping.
