Agustín Codazzi is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Cesar in Colombia . Agustín Codazzi is part of the metropolitan area of Valledupar , the metropolitan area of Valledupar .

Agustín Codazzi is located in the north of Cesar , 60 km south of Valledupar . The community is part of the Sierra de Perijá , but is otherwise flat and has an average temperature of 28 ° C. The municipality borders in the north on La Paz Robles and San Diego , in the south on Becerril , in the west on El Paso and in the east on the state of Zulia in Venezuela , with the Sierra de Perijá means a natural border.

history
The place was founded in 1700 by Félix Arias , but only got the status of a municipality in 1958. Until then, the place belonged to the neighboring municipality of La Paz Robles . Initially known as Espíritu Santo , Agustín Codazzi was renamed in 1958 in honor of the Italian military, geographer, and cartographer Agostino Codazzi , who died in Espíritu Santo in 1859.
