Marko Kravos (born May 16, 1943 in Montecalvo Irpino ) is an Italian writer of the Slovenian language.

Life

Marko Kravos' family had been deported to Campania by the Italian fascist regime . After the war he grew up in Trieste and attended the Slovenian school there. Kravos studied Slavic Studies at the University of Ljubljana in Yugoslavia until 1969 . He then worked for various publishing houses in Trieste. For several years he taught Slovene language and literature at the University of Trieste .

From 1996 to 2000 he was chairman of the Slovenian PEN

Kravos writes poetry, prose and children's books. He translates Italian literature into Slovenian. He received the Prešeren Prize in 1981 , the L'Astrolabio d'oro in Pisa in 2000 , the Premio Reggio Calabria for poetry in 2007 and the Scritture di frontiera award in Trieste in 2008.
