Markus Asper

Markus Asper (* 1968 ) is a German classical philologist .

Life

Asper studied from 1989 to 1994 at the University of Vienna and at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. After an assistant at the University of Konstanz (1995–2001), he completed his habilitation in 2003 at the University of Mainz with a thesis on scientific literature. After one year (2003/04) at Princeton, he became Assistant Professor of Classics at Pennsylvania State University in 2004 . From autumn 2007 he taught in the Department of Classics at New York University . Since spring 2010 he has been Professor of Greek Studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin. His work focuses on Hellenistic poetry and, mainly, Greek scientific literature.
