Markus Happe grew up in the Wolbeck district of Münster and began his football career with the local club VfL Wolbeck. He switched to Prussia Munster when he was young . Here he made his debut in 1990 at the age of 18 as a Libero in the 2nd Bundesliga in the 1: 3 defeat of the Prussians in the Park Stadium at FC Schalke 04 . With further good performances he recommended himself for higher tasks and after only one season in the 2nd Bundesliga from Preußen Münster to the 1st Bundesliga at Bayer 04 Leverkusen . There, too, Happe was a reliable defender, so that he was appointed to the U21 several times. In January 2000 he moved to FC Schalke 04 after his chances of playing in Leverkusen had declined. Here he showed no strong performances, so that he moved to 1. FC Köln in 2002 . Even there he could not play in the starting eleven. Therefore he moved to Kickers Offenbach in January 2004 . There he was considered a fixture in the defense and was team captain. In summer 2007 he moved back to Bayer 04 Leverkusen to lead the second team there until 2010. After his active career, Markus Happe will play in the traditional Bayer 04 Leverkusen team.
