life and work

After attending the University of Artistic and Industrial Design Linz and the Art Academy Berlin-Weissensee , Markus Hofer studied and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Bruno Gironcoli .

The instruments that Hofer uses to get to grips with familiar objects and surroundings are those of intervention. The artist himself reserves the right to choose where and to what extent he uses them. The public space is used as well as the private one. Already existing objects carefully selected by Hofer are given a new level of meaning through his sculptural interventions. Our usual patterns of perception are not only reversed, but also expanded and placed in a new context. When confronted with an object such as a garden hose or a boiler, perception is transformed. Hardly anyone looks at these objects from a formal-aesthetic point of view - except for Markus Hofer - who as a sculptor is primarily interested in the external shape. However, he makes use of the original function to use terms such as flat water and the like. a. figuratively, and he brings the simple banality of the objects back into focus. The demarcation between art and everyday objects is as complex as it is varied.

Markus Hofer was the first artist to be invited to the Intervention exhibition series by the Albertina , Vienna . His works have also been shown at the Belvedere in Vienna, the Kunsthalle Krems , the Museum Würth in Germany and other institutions.
