Markus Kerschbaumer (born May 6, 1975 in Villach ) is a former Austrian ice hockey goalkeeper and current coach of the EC VSV from the Erste Bank Ice Hockey League (EBEL).

Career

Markus Kerschbaumer was trained by Marcel Sakáč and played for the Zeller Eisbären in the National League and for Villacher SV in the Bundesliga . In Villach he was the second goalkeeper behind Gert Prohaska . He was also used in the U18 and U20 national teams.

In 2005 he was appointed to the EC VSV as the first permanent goalkeeping coach of an Austrian EBEL club, after having been involved with goalkeeping techniques since the early 1990s and also having attended a training camp run by François Allaire in Switzerland . In addition, he took on the tasks of off-ice training and video studies. In Austria he not only trains the goalkeepers of the fighting team and the junior teams of the EC VSV in up to twelve training units per week, but also the goalkeepers of the Austrian national teams . He maintains a lively exchange of information with Frédéric Chabot .

During his training, Gert Prohaska , Bernhard Starkbaum , Jean-Philippe Lamoureux and Olivier Roy were each among the strongest goalkeepers at the EBEL.

Success as a player

  • 1998, 1999 and 2000 runner-up in the national league with EK Zell am See
  • 2001, 2003 and 2004 Austrian runner-up with the EC VSV
  • 2002 Austrian champion with the EC VSV
