Markus Lusser
Markus Lusser (born April 8, 1931 in Altdorf ; † April 24, 1998 in Riehen ) was a Swiss lawyer . From 1988 to 1996 he was President of the Swiss National Bank .
Life
Lusser studied law at the universities of Bern and Paris . He received his doctorate in 1957 and was admitted to the bar and notary public in 1958 . He completed his professional career with the Swiss Bankers Association before he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Swiss National Bank in 1980 as a member of the CVP . In 1985 he became Vice President and in 1988, succeeding Pierre Languetin , President. He pursued a restrictive monetary policy . In 1996 Lusser resigned and was succeeded by Hans Meyer .
The University of Bern honored him with an honorary doctorate in 1997 .
