Markus Schwoerer (born March 9, 1937 in Waiblingen ) is a German physicist who mainly deals with organic solids .

Schwoerer studied physics at the ETH Zurich and the TH Stuttgart , where he received his doctorate in 1967. He has been Professor of Experimental Physics at the University of Bayreuth since 1975 . He deals with organic solids, e.g. B. with the electroluminescence of polymers .

In 1974 he received the annual prize for chemistry from the Göttingen Academy of Sciences. Since 1999 he has been a full member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences . In 2000 he received the Bavarian award Pro Meritis Scientiae et Litterarum and in 2002 the Bavarian Order of Merit .

From 1996 to 1998 he was President of the German Physical Society and in 2009 he became its honorary member. In 2010 he received the Alexander von Humboldt Medal from the Society of German Natural Scientists and Doctors (GDNÄ). In 2015 he was appointed Emeritus of Honor by the University of Bayreuth .
