Hans Christoph Wolf (born July 16, 1929 in Karlsruhe ; † June 26, 2020 in Murnau am Staffelsee ) was a German experimental physicist .

Life

Hans Christoph Wolf studied physics, chemistry and biology at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg and the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen and received his diploma in 1950. In 1952 he received his doctorate in Tübingen . He then received a research grant at the Technical University of Munich , where he worked in the field of physical chemistry . In 1955 he moved to the Technical University of Stuttgart , where he completed his habilitation in 1958 . In 1964 he received a full professorship at the TH Stuttgart and became director of the newly created 3rd Physics Institute at the TH Stuttgart (from 1967 University of Stuttgart). Until his retirement in 1997, Wolf was in charge of the institute.

Act

Among other things, Wolf had research stays in the USA , France and Japan . He was co-editor of numerous international journals.

His research interests were in organic solid state physics , where he investigated, among other things, the properties of organic molecular crystals. He also worked in the fields of photophysics and molecular electrical engineering.

In 2000 Wolf received the Otto Hahn Prize for Chemistry and Physics from the German Physical Society (DPG) and the Society of German Chemists (GDCh) for his work in the field of organic crystals.

Wolf is also known for his textbooks on molecular and atomic physics , which he wrote with Hermann Haken .
