Markus Thorandt (born April 1, 1981 in Augsburg ) is a former German soccer player .
Career
Thorandt played in the position of central defender, previously he was used in the right midfield. He began his career at TSV Königsbrunn and continued it from 1997 at FC Augsburg .
There he made his debut in the regional league team in July 1999 and, after the Swabians' license was withdrawn in the summer of 2000, he played regularly in the Bavarian League.
In 2002, the FCA was promoted to the Regionalliga Süd again . Thorandt was an integral part of the Augsburg regional league team, but mostly only came on as a substitute. It was not until the 2005/06 season, in which the Augsburgers were promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga, that Thorandt was set as a regular player.
In April 2006, the Augsburg native decided against extending his contract with FC Augsburg and switched to the Munich Lions for the 2006/07 season . In 1860 he came to 75 appearances in the 2nd Bundesliga, in which he was able to score five goals, and was also used five times in the U23 in the Regionalliga Süd, where he scored one goal.
In the summer of 2009 Thorandt moved to FC St. Pauli , where he signed a contract until 2012. In the 2009/2010 season he was promoted to the Bundesliga under coach Holger Stanislawski . In January 2014, his contract with FC St. Pauli was extended to 2015 (plus a one-year option, which was not drawn). In the 2014/2015 season he was only able to play 2 games due to a knee injury, whereupon his contract was no longer extended.
Trivia
He is married and lives with his family in Bobingen . After his active career, he finished his distance learning sports management and was employed by FC Augsburg and the sports management agency Lagardère .
