In early 1990, Wörner moved to the first division club SV Waldhof Mannheim in the Bundesliga during the winter break . He made his debut in German professional football with the Mannheim team. In the final phase of the 1989/90 season, the relegation-threatened team of coach Günter Sebert plagued injury concerns , so that Sebert fell back on the young Wörner. On the 33rd matchday he was substituted on for Volker Rudel in the final phase of the game against Fortuna Düsseldorf . Two minutes after being substituted on, Fortuna scored the winning goal to make it 1-0. This sealed Waldhof's relegation from the Bundesliga . On the last day of the season, Wörner was used again. After relegation, he moved to SV Sandhausen for a year . He then played for TSG Weinheim and TSG Pfeddersheim .
