Markus Züst

Markus Züst (born February 7, 1952 ) is a lawyer and politician in the Swiss canton of Uri . He is entitled to live in Wolfhalden in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

He studied law in Zurich from 1972–1978 and worked as a lawyer and notary and as a part-time public prosecutor and interrogator in various cantons until he was elected to the government council in 2004 .

He lives in Altdorf and was on the board of the local party of the Social Democratic Party of Switzerland and in the local planning commission and the cantonal transport commission. 1984–1997 he was a member of the management of the SP Uri and from 1992 to 1996 president of the cantonal party. 1991–2002 he was on the local council of Altdorf, from 1998 as mayor . From 2004 to 2016 he served as Councilor cantonal Construction Authority and was 2010-2012 Landammann (District President).

Since the end of his government activities in 2016, Markus Züst has again been a full-time lawyer and notary.

Since 2016 he has been president of the non-profit association Uri (GGU).

He has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Uri Tourismus AG (UTAG) since 2019.

Markus Züst is married and has three grown children.
