Marlene Bindig (born January 19, 1997 ) is a former German gymnast .
Career
Bindig, who did gymnastics for the Dresdner SC (DSC), began playing as a toddler. She came to DSC at the age of four and trained there with Volker Parsch . From 2007 to 2016 she studied at the Sports High School in Dresden , where she graduated from high school in 2016.
At the German Gymnastics Championships in 2014 , Bindig was the only athlete from Dresden to travel to the competitions and won the bronze medal on the ground behind Kim Bui and Pauline Schäfer . In 2015 she became German champion on the ground in Giessen together with Leah Grießer . In March 2016 she received the special prize of the city of Dresden at the Saxon Sports Gala.
A year later, at the age of only 20, Bindig, who was also active as a training instructor for the next generation, announced her end of career as a competitive athlete. The reason for this was that she started studying sports, tourism and event management in Bolzano , where she did not find ideal training conditions. Shortly before her resignation, Bindig was again all-around Saxon champion. The Dresden resident, who was trained by Tom Kroker , competed in her last major competition at the 2017 German Championships in the Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin . There she won the silver medal on the ground behind defending champion Pauline Schäfer, tied with Kim Bui. After the German championship, she contested two competitions in the 2nd Bundesliga for the DSC, despite starting her studies in Italy. Despite the fact that the club was finally promoted to the 1st Bundesliga, they again announced their final withdrawal from gymnastics.
In May 2018, Bindig received the “Sports Prize of the State Capital Dresden for Top Sports Performance 2017”.
