The Sportgymnasium Dresden is both an elite school of sport and an elite school of football . The Dresden Sports School Center consists of the Sports School and the Sports High School Dresden; both share the same building and are characterized by in-depth sports training.

The Sports High School Dresden is located in Dresden's Ostragehege in the Friedrichstadt district not far from the Elbe in the direct vicinity of the Dresden Exhibition Center . The tram line 10 of the Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe connects the area with the city center.

history

The Sports High School Dresden was founded on September 1st, 1954 as a children's and youth sports school (KJS) " Artur Becker " in the 45th secondary school in Dresden- Reick . Two years later the KJS moved to the 34th secondary school in Dresden- Cotta and then in 1963 to Klotzsche . They moved into a new school building on Parkstrasse in Seevorstadt in 1969. The two boarding school complexes and a cafeteria were put into operation in 1971 and 1972.

The school was given its current name in 1992. In 2000, the German Olympic Sports Confederation named the sports high school an elite sports school.

The sports high school in the basement was badly damaged by the Elbe floods in 2002 . The IT rooms, the school archive and a library were particularly affected; the school walls were also damaged. Instead of the necessary renovation, the decision was made to build a new sports school in Dresden's Ostragehege , as this also significantly shortened the distances to the sports facilities. In 2007, the company moved into the sports school center in Dresden am Messering.

The site includes the boarding school as well as the gym, cafeteria and outdoor areas. The sports high school and the sports high school in Dresden are located in the same building complex, with one half of the building primarily containing rooms for the sports high school and the other rooms for the sports high school. The cafeteria and the Dreifelderhalle are also in the same complex. The cafeteria is operated by the Dresden Student Union (as of 2012). The outdoor facilities include the basketball courts as well as the shot put and a 100-meter track, as well as the boarding school building and the all-day building with seminar rooms.

The boarding school is housed in five completely renovated, partly listed buildings in the complex of the sports school center. Up to 100 athletes live in 22 residential groups with a total of 54 single and 23 double rooms. Four of them are handicapped accessible.

The admission requirement for the use of the sports school boarding school is admission to the sports grammar school or the sports school in Dresden.
