Steffi Kriegerstein (born November 3, 1992 in Dresden ) is a German canoeist .

Career

In 1999, Steffi Kriegerstein began her sporting career at WSV Am Blauen Wunder Dresden eV , for which she is still starting today. In the spring of 2000 she was in a boat for the first time. A year later she played her first competitions. One of their first competitions was the Saxony Championship on Knappensee in Hoyerswerda. She won her first medals in the K2 class.

In 2003 she was accepted into the 5th grade of the sports middle school in Dresden, which further advanced her sporting career. In the 7th grade, she switched to the sports high school in Dresden . In 2005 she took part in the German championships for the first time. She fought for a first place in the K4 over 500 meters and a second place over 2000 meters.

Steffi Kriegerstein had her first international assignment in 2008 at the "Olympic Hopegames" in Szeged / Hungary. She reached third place in both K1 and K4.

In 2009 Steffi Kriegerstein took part in her first national qualifying competitions. She made the jump into the junior national team and paddled her way up to 4th place in the K1 1000 m and first place with Sabrina Hering (Hanover) in the K2 500 m at the Junior World Championships in Moscow / Russia. For this she received the 2010 state capital Dresden sponsorship award for young athletes. Furthermore, she was named Elite Student of the Year 2009.

In 2012 she graduated from high school. In the winter semester of 2012, Steffi Kriegerstein took the "Regenerative Energy Systems" course at the TU Dresden . In 2013 she joined the Bundeswehr sports promotion group . In spring 2014 she started her new studies at Ansbach University in the field of "International Management".

Steffi Kriegerstein celebrated the most successful season in 2014 with her K2 partner Sabrina Hering. In that year she made the leap into the German national canoe racing team .

In 2016 she qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio , where she started in a four-person kayak over 500 meters and successfully finished 2nd. For this she received the silver bay leaf on November 1, 2016 .
