The building has been a listed building since 1999 . In the GDR it was used by a polytechnic high school, after the fall of the Wall until 2007 by the aforementioned grammar school. After changing interim use, it has now been used by the Ehrenfried-Walther-von-Tschirnhaus-Gymnasium since 2019.

history

The building of the Fritz-Löffler-Gymnasium Dresden, which was closed in 2007, was the first new school building in Dresden in the post-war period and served as a school building at the beginning of the 3rd middle school. In 1963 another wing was added to the existing school building. The gym was built in 1970. The house was later called the 3rd Polytechnic High School (POS) and named after Georg Schumann in 1981 . In 1945 he was executed in the courtyard of the district court on Münchner Platz , which is now the Münchner Platz Dresden Memorial .

After the fall of the Wall in 1990, the school became the Dresden-Südvorstadt grammar school and in 1993 was given the name of the preservationist Fritz Löffler . The grammar school was closed in 2007 and has since served as accommodation for the Vitzthum grammar school .

The building from 1956 has been renovated since 2016 and reopened in 2019 after extensive construction work, together with other buildings that were built on the school premises. The school was renamed after the naturalist Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus , the existing building was named Fritz-Löffler-Haus . In addition, a new four-field sports hall was built on the site of the prefabricated building of the former 46th middle school, which was demolished for this purpose; the 46th middle and high school is now located at Andreas-Schubert-Straße north of the Lukaskirche .

Description of the old part

The façade has seven window axes, with the three-axis central projection emphasizing the central axis. The shared portal is located there . Above the three doors is an arbor , which rests at the corners on two embossed corner pillars with capitals and on two further columns with Doric frames. The windows in the central projection are framed by pilaster strips . Corner pilasters hold the central projections on the sides. These carry an architrave with a frieze and a triangular gable. Walter Reinhold created the fountain sculpture "Junge Naturforscher", which stands in front of the building.
