The König-Georg-Gymnasium in Dresden was opened as the first humanistic reform school in Saxony on April 21, 1903, named after King Georg, who ruled from 1902 to 1904 . A new building was started on Fiedlerplatz in 1905, which was built by the City Planning Officer Hans Erlwein . The paintings were made by guild member Otto Gussmann , including the ceiling painting in the ballroom that was completed in 1910. In addition to the school building, two gyms and a forest garden were built . The building was inaugurated on October 12, 1907.

Part of the concept of the reform school was the special promotion of language teaching in English and French as well as in the old languages based on the model of the Goethe Gymnasium in Frankfurt am Main. The teachers included the representative of German studies Walther Hofstaetter and Will Grohmann , who was dismissed in 1933, while the students included the writer Erich Kästner and the art historian Fritz Löffler (both graduated from high school in 1919). During the First World War the school building served as a hospital . In 1916 the school acquired a piece of land in Königstein - Halbestadt to set up a school campground , and in 1920 a hiking hostel in Reichenau near Frauenstein. After initial restrictions due to financial difficulties from 1932, the school was brought into line in 1933 by the Nazi school policy. In 1937 the grammar school was converted into an upper secondary school for boys. The political scientist Iring Fetscher was one of the students between 1932 and 1940 .

In 1943 an auxiliary hospital was set up in the school. In February 1945 the school building was damaged by bombs . Like all schools in Dresden, the school was closed. When it reopened in 1946, the König-Georg-Schule was merged with the Schiller School in Blasewitz and continued there as the Dresden-Ost Oberschule . The former schoolhouse served as a polyclinic for the Medical Academy from 1948 (finally) , and it was also considerably renovated and rebuilt. Today the dental clinic of the university clinic is located here.
