Marpessa Dawn (born January 3, 1934 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania , † August 25, 2008 in Paris ) was an American actress .

As a young woman, Dawn initially worked as a dancer , she was discovered for film in France in the mid-1950s .

She played her most important and greatest role in Orfeu Negro alongside Breno Mello . This appearance was seen by critics as the beginning of a great film career, but the offers did not materialize, which is why it was rarely seen in the cinema or television (there also in some series). Her roles were mostly limited to short appearances or small supporting roles.

She also sang records, including "Manhã de Carnaval" from Orfeu Negro . After she adorned some cover pages due to the film's success, the public interest in Dawn ebbed more and more.

Dawn was married twice and had five children. She died of a heart attack in 2008 at the age of 74, just six weeks after fellow actor Breno Mello.
