Marriage of Convenience (translated "fake marriage") is a British crime film directed by Clive Donner from 1960 . It was produced by the film company Merton Park Studios . The script comes from Robert Banks Stewart and builds on the novel The Three Oak Mystery (Eng. With the three oaks ) by Edgar Wallace . The film was the fourth part of the Edgar Wallace Mysteries , a series of 47 Edgar Wallace film adaptations made by Merton Park Studios between 1960 and 1965; it was never shown in Germany.

action

Robber Larry Wilson is arrested and jailed for stealing £ 20,000 but escapes from prison. To do this, he and his cellmate arrange a fake wedding to his stepdaughter Barbara Blair. After his escape, he tries to contact his former accomplice Tina and learns that she is now married to the police officer John Mandle. Mandle had arrested Wilson at the time, and in order to get revenge, Wilson tracks down the couple by the sea, where he and Tina had hidden the booty from the robbery. Inspector Jack Bruce follows the trail of Wilson and thus uncovered the secret of his former rival Mandle and the robber accomplice Tina. He finally manages to arrest all three.

Reviews

In their Das Edgar Wallace Lexikon from 2004, Joachim Kramp and Jürgen Wehnert cite a review of the film by the Monthly Film Bulletin . Accordingly, the film is "by and large a disappointing addition to the new Edgar Wallace series by Merton Park." The "surprisingly stiff style" of director Clive Donner could "not compensate for the entire amateur level of presentation and script".
