action

The game begins with the arrival of the young prisoner Innocence Smith at Labor Camp 19 on Mars. As a new inmate, he was introduced to the prevailing conditions by fellow prisoners immediately after his arrival. However, before a rape can occur, prisoner Roy Temperance interferes and saves Innocence from abuse. Together the two forge escape plans in order to escape the camp. But Mars is torn between the clashes of large corporations over the few water supplies, especially the companies Abundance and Aurora. The ionizing radiation also creates hideous mutations and a hostile environment.

Gameplay

The player controls Roy directly from a third person perspective . His companions support the player in real-time battles. The time can be paused at the push of a button to give you simple instructions. The game mainly consists of hand-to-hand combat with self-made weapons, supplemented by various long-range combat techniques and magic variants (technomancy). Not all tasks have to be resolved in a combative manner, several conversational solutions are also available. A rudimentary reputation system evaluates the player's actions and the impact on his / her reputation with the other residents.

Mars: War Logs received mixed reviews. The quality of the plot and the game design after the first chapter was often complained of, which made the low budget clearly noticeable. In this way, the various relationships between the characters are carried on far too superficially and the combat system is exhausted in constant repetitions. As a result, the game cannot consistently complete its promising approaches, which is why the title is only recommended for genre lovers who are capable of suffering and who are looking for variety.

"In the test, the crisp action RPG Mars: War Logs is love at first sight for us, and a bitter disappointment at second sight."

- Patrick Mittler : Test report Gamestar

“Silly Technomancers aside, it has all the pieces and ideas it needs to be something special - just not the writing chops or the raw resources needed to flesh them out to the level of the games it draws obvious inspiration from. The result is hard to recommend, with few diamonds to be found in the Martian rough. "

“Leaving the stupid technomancers out of the way, the game has all the components and ideas that you need for something very special - just not the writing substance or basic resources that it would need to develop it to the level of detail that is obvious Do role models. The result is difficult to recommend, with just a few diamonds to be discovered in the rugged Martian landscape. "

In June 2016, Spiders released a sequel with The Technomancer .
