Marsieh Afcham , also Marzieh Afkham ( Persian مرضیه افخم, DMG Marżīye Afḫam , born June 13, 1964 in Tehran ), is an Iranian diplomat and the current ambassador of Iran to Malaysia .

Life

Afcham studied at Allameh Tabataba'i University and Azad University and speaks fluent English and French in addition to her native Persian. She worked for three decades in various positions in the Tehran Foreign Ministry, including from 2010 as head of the Ministry's media office. From August 2013 to November 2015 she was the spokeswoman for the Foreign Office and thus the first ministry spokeswoman since the revolution . Her responsibility included political commentary on the nuclear negotiations and relations with other countries. Afcham is regarded as a model diplomat loyal to the regime, whose example is intended to prove that women are not oppressed in Iran.

In November 2015, the experienced diplomat was the first woman after the revolution to be given ambassador status and sent to Malaysia. She is the second woman ever to become the Iranian ambassador after a few years before the revolution, between 1975 and 1979, Mehrangiz Dolatshahi was the first woman to represent Iran in Denmark .

Marsieh Afcham is married to a colleague from the State Department.
