Martin Neuffer Bridge
The Martin-Neuffer-Brücke , until 2010 Marstallbrücke , in Hanover leads from the high bank of the old town to the opposite Leibnizufer . Today's listed bridge was built in 1736/37 based on a design by Johann Paul Heumann and was named in December 2010 after the former Hanover city director Martin Neuffer .
history
A first wooden bridge was built in 1680–82, as was the New Gate at this point. The bridge was first called "New Bridge" and "Bridge near London Schenke " , later named after the nearby Hofmar stables on the high bank . The bridge served as a connection between the north-western corner of the old town and the "Neue Straße", which had been laid out in Calenberger Neustadt since 1681 . It was part of one of three connecting streets between the city of Hanover and the then still independent Calenberger Neustadt (sometimes called Neustadt for short ).
The present structure was built in 1736/37. The bridge also suffered damage as a result of the air raids on Hanover in World War II , most of which were not removed until 1953.

Building description
Today's bridge shows three basket arches made of ashlar. The sides are made of bricks. In 1953 the bridge was rebuilt true to the original (apart from the old parapet).
