features

The stems are often tufted at the top. They form numerous stolons and grow in red-brown, black-green or black lawns that are one to five centimeters high. The leaves are loosely placed and boat-shaped. Spread out, they are oval to rounded square. On a third to a half they are divided into two lobes, the incision is acute-angled. In the middle of the leaf, the cells are 15 to 20 × 20 to 25 micrometers in size, the corners are rather thick and brown. A perianth is formed.

Distribution and locations

The species is distributed in a circumpolar manner. In Germany it is known from the Allgäu, the Bavarian Forest, the Thuringian Forest, the Hart, the Fichtelgebirge and the Black Forest. In Austria, it occurs mainly in the Central Alps from scattered to widespread. It grows on damp or wet, lime-free rocks, as well as on sandy and boggy soils, also submerged (submerged) in bog varnishes.
