The wayside shrine in Sommerach

The torture on the mountain (also crucifixion shrine from 1683 ) is a torture in the district of Sommerach in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen . The wayside shrine can be found on the so-called Mittelweg between Sommerach and Nordheim am Main .

history

The wayside shrine was donated by a private citizen in 1683. The founder "HANNS BARTEL VLERIG" was immortalized in a coat of arms cartouche on the stick. The family of the founder was also represented around the crucified. It can therefore be assumed that Vlerig (or Ulerig) had five children. The tools of a Büttner , also attached to the Marter , probably refer to the profession of the founder, the list at the vineyards supports this reading.

The wayside shrine was renewed in 1961 as part of the vineyard clearing, which was also indicated by an inscription in the pillar. Today the wayside shrine is classified as an architectural monument by the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments .

description

The wayside shrine presents itself as a baroque torture . It has a tapered, square pillar and a four-sided picture attachment. An expansive volute capital leads to the top, on which reliefs of the coronation of Mary and the crucifixion were attached. On the narrow sides depictions of St. Bartholomew and St. Michael can be seen. Several donor figures are carved out below the crucifixion of Christ. The year "1.6.83" was placed on the wayside shrine.
