Martin Fruelund Albertsen (born April 10, 1974 ) is a Danish handball coach who coaches the Swiss women's national handball team. He is the holder of the international trainer license EHF Master Coach .
Career
Albertsen initially played handball and had to end his playing career at the age of about 22 due to injury. From 1989 Albertsen trained youth teams at the Danish club Vorub FB, where he also trained his cousin Katrine Fruelund . His next coaching position was the Danish women's second division AGF, which he supervised in the 1998/99 season. He then worked in the youth division of Viborg HK and in 2002 took on the position of assistant coach for the women's team. In the 2003/04 season Albertsen coached the VHK women's team, which won the championship, the Danish Cup and the EHF Cup this season. In summer 2004 he joined the German Bundesliga club HC Leipzig . Under his leadership, Leipzig won the championship and the DHB Cup in 2006 .
Albertsen signed a contract with the Danish first division club Randers HK in 2006 . In 2009 he gave up his coaching position to Jan Leslie and became a sports manager at Randers HK. In 2011 the Dane took over the coaching position of Viborg HK for the second time. Albertsen was released there in November 2012. For the 2013/14 season he took over the newly founded club København Håndbold. On September 29, 2014 he was given leave of absence after a bad start to the season. In December 2014 he took over SG BBM Bietigheim. Under his leadership, Bietigheim won the German championship in 2017. From February 1, 2018, he will also train the Swiss women's national team . In 2019, Bietigheim won the German championship again. After the 2019/20 season, Albertsen resigned his coaching position from Bietigheim and has since been active in promoting young talent at the handball academy in Switzerland.
