Martin Bashir (born January 19, 1963 in London ) is a British journalist of Pakistani origin. He owns an estate in Winchester .

Career

Bashir became famous in 1995 through the BBC documentary An Interview with HRH the Princess of Wales with Princess Diana of Wales , who died in 1997 , in which he elicited numerous details from her private life with Prince Charles , her divorce, her affairs and her bulimia . The television broadcast caused a worldwide sensation. Other celebrity interviews, including with Jeffrey Archer , followed.

Living with Michael Jackson

In the year 2003 , which appeared in ITV production Living with Michael Jackson , which was sold to hundreds of TV stations worldwide.

Critics accused Bashir of failing to exercise fairness. In particular, he deliberately cut out passages to give the impression that Jackson was not a responsible father for his three children and had a disturbed relationship to his sexuality. The fact that the documentary was actually cut to Jackson's disadvantage was proven by the testimony of the cutter Hamid Moleshi during the cross-examination in the trial against Jackson. Martin Bashir, in turn, invoked the freedom of the press and accused Jackson of subsequently waging a campaign against him.

Jackson and the broadcaster FOX followed up the documentary The Michael Jackson Interview: The Footage You Were Never Meant to See , which was based on material that Jackson's own camera team had recorded during Bashir's interview. Jackson made his recording available to prove that Bashir had falsified the interview.
