Jeffrey Howard Archer, Baron Archer of Weston-super-Mare (* 15. April 1940 in London ) is a writer of best-sellers and British politicians .

Life

Jeffrey Archer attended Wellington School in Somerset and Brasenose College in Oxford , the latter without graduating. He was from 1969 to 1974 for the Conservative Party in the constituency of Louth in Lincolnshire in the House of Commons .

His first short story, Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less , came out in 1974 and was an instant hit. This was followed by the thriller Shall We Tell the President? , then the bestseller Kane and Abel and its sequel The Prodigal Daughter . Many books such as B. A man of honor ( A Matter Of Honor ) were quickly translated into German in the 1980s because they enjoyed also in the German area of great popularity. A Quiver Full of Arrows , A Twist in the Tale, and Twelve Red Herrings are each a collection of short stories written by Archer.

In 1992 he was named a Life Peer as Baron Archer of Weston-super-Mare , of Mark in the County of Somerset , and has been a member of the House of Lords ever since .

During the election for Lord Mayor of London , in which he was initially a candidate for the Conservative Party, he was charged with perjury in early 2000 and sentenced to several years in prison. While in prison, he wrote a three-part, critically acclaimed prison diary ( The Prison Diaries ). He was expelled from the Conservative Party and has been party-less ( non-affiliated ) Member of the House of Lords.

Jeffrey Archer currently lives in Lambeth ( London ) and The Old Vicarage in the village of Grantchester in Cambridge , one by a poem by Rupert Brooke famous house. Archer is married and has two sons.
