Martin Cooper (musician)

Martin Cooper (born October 1, 1958 in Liverpool , England ) is a British keyboardist , saxophonist , songwriter and painter .

Life

Cooper first attended the Laird School of Art in Birkenhead and then studied art at the College of Art in Sheffield . After graduating in 1980, he joined Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark . Together with Paul Humphreys he wrote the title Souvenir , which reached position 3 in the British singles chart and is one of the band's greatest successes. He was also co-author of the singles Talking Loud and Clear and If You Leave .

After artistic differences, Cooper left OMD together with Humphreys and the drummer Malcolm Holmes . The three of them founded the band The Listening Pool , which due to contractual obligations could only release their first album in 1994. Cooper was co-author of all titles and designed the album cover, a still life . Two years later the band broke up. From 2007 Cooper appeared again with OMD and was involved as a musician on the album History of Modern in 2010 .

Since leaving OMD in 1989, Cooper has concentrated on painting, especially still lifes in oil paint . He exhibited his work in numerous British and foreign galleries, including the Royal Academy of Arts .

Cooper is married and has two sons.
