Martin Eberts

Martin Eberts (* 1957 ) is a German diplomat who has worked in Japan, Brazil and Taiwan, among others.

Life

After graduating from high school, Eberts studied history , literature and theology at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn .

career

In 1986 Eberts began the preparatory service for the higher foreign service and after its graduation was from 1988 to 1991 advisor for press and public relations at the embassy in Hungary and then from 1991 to 1993 advisor for Central Europe at the Foreign Office in Bonn . Between 1993 and 1997 he worked as a policy, press and public relations officer at the embassy in Saudi Arabia . From 1997 to 1998 he took part in an exchange program with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France , during which time he was an advisor for Eastern European affairs before he was deputy head of the economic and trade department at the embassy in France between 1998 and 2001 .

After his return to Germany, Eberts worked from 2001 to 2005 as a lecturer in the Legation Council in the planning staff of the Foreign Office in Berlin and was then head of the political department at the embassy in Japan between 2005 and 2009 . From 2009 to 2012 he was Head of the Department for German Cultural Institutions Abroad at the Foreign Office, before he was Head of the Department for Economics and Global Issues at the Embassy in Brazil between 2012 and 2014 .

In August 2014, Eberts succeeded Michael Zickerick as General Director of the German Institute Taipei and served as the diplomatic representative of the Federal Republic of Germany in Taiwan until July 2018 . Thomas Prinz became his successor on July 30, 2018 . In 2018 Eberts became head of the political department at the embassy in Indonesia .
