Martin Faass

Martin Faass (* 1963 in Karlsruhe ) is a German art historian . From 2006 to 2018 he was director of the Liebermann-Villa Museum am Wannsee in Berlin and has been director of the Hessisches Landesmuseum Darmstadt since January 2019 .

Life

Martin Faass studied art history and German studies in Marburg and Berlin and received his doctorate in 1998 from  Eberhard König with a thesis on the subject of Lyonel Feininger and Cubism  . From 1996 to 2007 he realized numerous exhibitions as a curator, including a. for the Hamburger Kunsthalle , the Museum Kurhaus Kleve , the Kunsthaus Apolda and the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg . Since 2000 he has been curator of the Finkenwerder Art Prize , Hamburg, donated by Airbus Deutschland GmbH . From 2001 to 2003 he completed an academic traineeship at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg, where he was responsible for the inventory catalog of the "Art Nouveau Collection Volume III". As a research assistant , he curated the exhibition Nature for Art , which opened in 2004 at the Museum of Art and Industry in Hamburg. In September 2006 he became director of the Liebermann-Villa Museum on Wannsee in Berlin. In 2012 he was elected to the board of the State Association of Museums in Berlin (LMB). Since January 1, 2019, Faass has been director of the Hessian State Museum in Darmstadt .
