Eberhard König (art historian)

Roland Friedrich Werner Eberhard König (born June 17, 1947 in Grebenstein near Kassel ) is a German art historian.

Life

From 1966 to 1973 König studied art history, classical archeology, history and Egyptian art history in Bonn , Tübingen , Paris and Oxford . In 1975 he was in Bonn with a thesis on the French Illumination 1450 doctorate . From 1976 to 1981 he was Reiner Haussherr's research assistant at the University of Kiel and later in Berlin , where he completed his habilitation in 1983 with an unpublished work on "Designing and Illuminating the Earliest Prints of the Latin Bible". From 1986 to 2012 he was professor of Gothic and Renaissance art history at the Free University of Berlin .

His main research interests are medieval book and Renaissance painting .

In 1999 he received the Prix Eugène Carrière of the Académie française for the book about the " Très Belles Heures de Notre-Dame ". In 2009 he was appointed Chevalier dans l ' Ordre des Arts et des Lettres .
