Martin Geiser
Martin Geiser (born October 29, 1925 in Kaufbeuren ; † September 24, 2018 there ) was a German politician ( SPD ).
Life and work
After attending school, Geiser first completed an apprenticeship as an aircraft manufacturer at BMW . In the Second World War he was a pilot in the Wehrmacht and was used in Normandy. He became a French prisoner of war, from which he was released in 1947. He then worked as a postal worker. In 1956/57 he studied social sciences at the Academy of Labor in Frankfurt am Main. He was involved in the German Postal Union and was elected chairman of the staff council of the Kaufbeuren post office. In addition, he was a member of the District Staff Council at the Oberpostdirektion Munich .
politics
Geiser joined the Young Socialists in 1953 and later the SPD, where he became chairman of the southern Swabia sub-district. He was a city councilor in Kaufbeuren for many years and was a member of the Bavarian state parliament from 1962 to 1978 . The state parliament elected him in 1969 as a member of the fifth federal assembly , which Gustav Heinemann elected Federal President .
In November 2016, Geiser received the Georg von Vollmar Medal, the highest award of the BayernSPD, from the SPD parliamentary group leader Markus Rinderspacher .
