Martin Gruber (* 1967 in Bregenz ) is an Austrian - Italian theater director and artistic director of the independent theater group Aktionstheater Ensemble, which he founded .

Life

Martin Gruber was born in Bregenz in 1967 and grew up in Dornbirn in Vorarlberg . He studied acting and founded the theater formation Aktionstheater Ensemble in 1989 , with which he made guest appearances at numerous theaters in Austria, Germany and Switzerland and took part in various international festivals such as the Bregenz Festival , Kurt Weill Festival, Impulse Festival, Bregenz Spring and the Wiener Festwochen .

Gruber began directing in 1998 with multimedia classic adaptations of Antigone and Elektra and became known in 1993/1994 with his adaptation of the Büchner trilogy ( Woyzeck , Leonce and Lena , Dantons Tod ).

After a period of collaboration with dancers and choreographers, Gruber changed his way of working and worked with writers such as Franzobel (Schwalbenkönig 2006), Gert Jonke (Platzen Sudden, 2008), Christian Uetz (Ulysses Roadmovie 2010), Andreas Staudinger (Paradiesseits 2009), Wolfgang Mörth (What Crisis 2009, Working Pure 2011), Claudia Tondl (We are founding a party in 2012, weekday revolution 2013) new theater material and own projects.

Since then, Martin Gruber has worked regularly with composers, musicians and visual artists. So with the bassist Peter Herbert (Nathan the Wise, Peachum's dream), the composer Gerald Futscher (Miluj Ma, Paradiesseits), the Munich Symphony Orchestra and the rock bands 78plus , Morbidelli Brothers (Which Crisis, Ulysses Roadmovie, Weekday Revolution ) or the visual artist were created Tone Fink (operetta. Apocalypse, Revue, Revue. Art is pointless) or music projects with the composers Gerald Futscher (Paradiesseits-Sprachoper) and Gerold Amann (Opera: der Fundevogel, language-independent vocal piece: the little nightmare man).

Since breaking with the classics, Gruber has been known for reflecting on the present particularly quickly. His theatrical works basically take up topics that have connections with contemporary people.

In 2008, together with his long-time dramaturge Martin Ojster , Gruber invented the “Salon d'amour” art lounge, which has become a fixture in Magazin 4 and where numerous Austrian artists have been meeting since then. Among others: Wolfgang Hermann, Daniela Egger, Wolfgang Mörth, Rainer Nikowitz, Andrea Maria Dusl, Monika Helfer, Stephan Eibel, 78plus , Tini Trampler and the dirty combo, Zeebee, Morbidelli Brothers, Kmet, Propella and many others were guests.
