Career

Haskamp learned to play football at his home club Blau-Weiß Lohne and in 1974 moved to the youth department of Werder Bremen. There he first played with the amateurs before he received a professional contract in 1981. Haskamp experienced both Bremen's relegation from the 1st Bundesliga and immediate resurgence in the 1980/81 season. Still as an amateur, he played with the Werder amateurs from the 1976/77 season in the Oberliga Nord, he made his debut in the Bundesliga on June 9, 1979 under coach Wolfgang Weber . He came on as a substitute for Klaus Wunder in a 2-2 draw at 1. FC Nürnberg in the 76th minute . When Werder won the championship and the Bundesliga return in 1980/81 under coach Kuno Klötzer - he was replaced with Otto Rehhagel in April 1981 due to the consequences of a car accident - Haskamp played in four games with the professionals. When Werder Bremen wrested 0-0 in the away game Hannover 96 on May 9, 1981, Haskamp formed the defensive row of the 2nd league champions as right defender with Libero Klaus Fichtel , Vorstopper Norbert Siegmann and left defender Jonny Otten in front of goalkeeper Dieter Burdenski . At the same time he won the runner-up in the Oberliga Nord with the Werder amateurs and had 32 league games (1 goal). After the rise of the professionals, he got a licensed player contract, but did not make the breakthrough. The defender played his last Bundesliga game on December 11, 1982 in a 2-1 away win at VfL Bochum, when he was substituted on for Benno Möhlmann in the 46th minute .

In 1983 he went back to the amateur sector at VfB Oldenburg . Overall, Martin Haskamp is listed in the Oberliga Nord with 253 league appearances (6 goals) for the clubs Werder Bremen Amateure, VfB Oldenburg, TuS Bremerhaven 93 and FC Mahndorf .
