Martin E. Jankowski (* 1965 in Greifswald ) is a German writer .

Life

He grew up in Gotha and was part of the opposition scene around the Nikolaikirche and the Leipzig song scene as a poet and singer in the 1980s . From 1982 until the end of the GDR he was confronted by the Stasi with disintegration measures during two operations . Jankowski was therefore unable to study, was banned from performing, publishing and traveling and lived in a " bugged " apartment.

From 1990 to 1995 he lived in Fürstenwalde / Spree , where he co-founded the Kulturfabrik am Dom. Jankowski has lived as a writer in Berlin since 1995. In addition to songs, poems, stories and essays, he has published stage texts, literary criticism and a novel. From 2000 he worked for various museums and international art projects as an author and curator, including the Berggruen Collection and the Dahlem Ethnological Museum . In 2003 he was a guest lecturer for New German Literature at Universitas Indonesia . From 2001 to 2004 he worked for the international literature festival berlin . Until 2010 he was in charge of the specials program division . In 2003 and 2004 he was chairman of the German-Indonesian Cultural Institute in Berlin. Since 2004 he has hosted the literature salon on Kollwitzplatz . Since 2005 he has headed the Berlin Literary Action . In 2006 he received the Alfred Döblin Scholarship and undertook reading tours through Indonesia on behalf of the IndonesiaTera Foundation and the German Embassy (also in 2008 and 2010 at the invitation of the Goethe Institute ). From 2007 to 2010 he hosted the literature salon Mitte . Since 2012 he has organized the Berlin Literature Salon Karlshorst . Jankowski works occasionally as a theater director and regularly as an editor. In 2011 he headed the Jakarta Berlin Arts Festival and in 2016 the literary festival Stadtschulen in Berlin. In 2015 and 2016 he was a guest lecturer for the latest German literature, theater and history at Portland State University (Oregon / USA). Since 2017 he has headed the international literature series Parataxe and is editor of the multilingual online literary magazine stadtsprach.de, and in 2018 he also heads the bilingual literature festival Berlin New York = URBAN DICTIONARY.

Jankowski has lived as a freelance writer in Berlin since 1995 and has two daughters, including the actress Rahel Johanna Jankowski .
