Martin Korte
Martin Korte (born August 25, 1964 in Rheine ) is a German biologist . His main research interests are the cellular foundations of learning and memory, neurotrophins and their receptors , synapses and plasticity in the hippocampus .
Life
In 1985, Korte began studying biology in Münster and Tübingen. For his diploma thesis on "Intermodal compensatory plasticity in early blind cats", Korte conducted research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda (Maryland) in 1990/1991 .
After completing his diploma thesis, Korte stayed at the National Institutes of Health as a research assistant in 1992 and began his doctoral thesis on “Retrograde signal systems in long-term potentiation at the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research in Frankfurt under the supervision of Wolf Singer and Tobias Bonhoeffer Synapses ".
In 1993, Korte and Bonhoeffer moved to the then Max Planck Institute for Psychiatry in Martinsried (now: Max Planck Institute for Neurobiology ) and received his doctorate in 1995. After working as a postdoc at the MPI for Psychiatry, Korte worked at the pharmaceutical company Janssen-Cilag from 1996 until he became head of a working group at the Max Planck Institute for Neurobiology in Martinsried in 1998. In 2001 he completed his habilitation at the LMU Munich and in 2004 he accepted a professorship at the TU Braunschweig , where he now heads the Zoological Institute.
Outside the academic world, he became known through television appearances.

- 1996 Karl Heinz Beckurts Prize for special commitment in teaching, didactics and in encouraging schoolchildren to do their own scientific work

- 2002 Heisenberg grant from the German Research Foundation (DFG)
