Martin Maletius (born January 9, 1634 in Bialla ; † January 13, 1711 in Königsberg ) from the Maletius family was a Prussian theologian and pastor at the Polish church Steindamm in Königsberg.

Origin and youth

Martin Maletius was the son of the pastor of Bialla Hieronymus (III.) Maletius (1589–1662) and his wife Sara Drigalski (1590-?). He was also a great-grandson of Hieronymus (I) Maletius . He began his school education at the school in Bialla and from 1643 went to the school in the Königsberg Kneiphof. During this time he lived with Rector Neufeld, as his family continued to live in Bialla. He finished school in 1648 and was released "to the academy" on June 22nd of that year. Just two days later, he enrolled at the University of Königsberg for the subjects of theology and philosophy.

The years up to 1682

Martin Maletius received his presumably first job on June 19, 1660, when he was vice principal of the Lycker school. He worked there for the next two years. When his father died in 1662, he was introduced to Bialla on July 11th by the Archpriest Karenke from Lyck as his successor. Ordination took place on June 17, 1662 in the Königsberg Residenzkirche by the electoral court preacher Christian Dreier.

From 1664 and 1695 he was named with a share in the Gut Regelitzen, which had been in the family since 1544. During his tenure in Bialla, he married Dorothea von Pelkofski (1648–1707) on October 18, 1665, the daughter of the electoral district judge in the office of Oletzko Johann von Pelkofski. When the pastor of the Klaussen church in today's Klusy in the rural parish of Orzysz , Albert Konopka, died in 1674 and the pastor's position became vacant, Martin Maletius also applied for the office. He was employed and introduced on December 4, 1674 by the Archpriest Thilo of Lyck.

As a pastor in Königsberg

With the death of pastor George Skrodzki in 1682, the pastor's position at the Königsberg Polish Church on Steindamm became vacant. The application by Maletius was probably very timely, because he will be introduced as pastor on April 27th. During his tenure in Koenigsberg he faced some difficulties. So z. B. 1686 with soldiers billeted in Königsberg who disrupted the sermon, smashed windows and not only used the cemetery for running the gauntlet, but also disregarded the quiet of the graves. Maletius tried to put an end to it all with a letter to the superiors and a reference to a law passed in 1666. With his death on January 13, 1711, his term as pastor also ended.

progeny

He had five sons and six daughters, but two sons and three daughters died before him. One of the sons with the traditional name Hieronymus (1667–1700) embarked on a spiritual career and was a deacon in Johannisburg from 1692 until his death . Another, Johann , was a judge, town clerk and mayor of Johannisburg.
