Boštjan Nachbar (born July 3, 1980 in Slovenj Gradec , SR Slovenia ) is a former Slovenian basketball player. The 2.06 m tall winger was under contract with various teams in the NBA from 2002 to 2008 , and he also played in several European countries, including Germany .

Career

Neighbor was active in various clubs in Slovenia until 2000. He then moved to Benetton in Treviso , Italy , where he got more playing time and became Italian champion. In the 2002 NBA Draft , he was selected 15th by the Houston Rockets . For this club he played until 2004 before moving to New Orleans for the Hornets. There, his average playing time increased to over 20 minutes per game. After moving to Oklahoma City with the Hornets , Neighbor moved to the New Jersey Nets in early 2006 , where he was given regular working time from the substitute bank.

In 2008 he returned to Europe and signed with MBK Dynamo in Moscow, Russia . He stayed there for a year before moving to the Turkish master Efes Pilsen in Istanbul . After two years of losing to Fenerbahçe Ülker in the final in 2010 and in the semifinals in 2011 , the contract ended and neighbor had to undergo an ankle surgery, which he missed the 2011 European Championship and which forced him to take a longer break. As a Slovenian national player , Nachbar had previously participated in the European Championships in 2003, 2005 and 2009, in which they only narrowly missed a medal with fourth place, as well as the World Championships in 2006 and 2010.

At the beginning of 2012 he signed a contract with the ULEB Eurocup winner UNICS from Kazan . With the Russian club he also played in the ULEB Euroleague 2011/12 . For the 2012/13 season, the reigning German champions Brose Baskets Bamberg announced the commitment of neighbor for one year. After a successful season with Bamberg (45 Bundesliga appearances: 13.4 points, 3.6 rebounds per match), which ended with the German championship for the Franks, Neighbor moved to Spain and received a contract with the basketball department until 2014 of FC Barcelona . He stayed there for two years, winning the Spanish championship title with Barcelona in the 2013/14 season. His last stop was Seville, where he announced his retirement from competitive sports at the age of 37.

After the end of his career neighbor became director of the Euroleague players' association.
