Martin Richards
Martin "Marty" Richards (born March 11, 1932 as Morton Richard Klein ; † November 26, 2012 ) was an American producer of musicals and feature films .
Life
Since the early 1970s, Richards has worked as a producer of films, plays, and especially musicals. The best-known productions in which he worked included the Broadway performances Chicago (1975–1978), Sweeney Todd (1979–1980), La Cage aux Folles (1983–1987) and Grand Hotel (1989–1992). For many of his productions he has received the major theater awards Tony Award and Drama Desk Award .
His greatest success was the musical Chicago from 2002. Richards won an Oscar for it in the category Best Picture . The film was nominated in a total of 13 categories and won six awards. The film was nominated eight times at the Golden Globe Awards 2003 and won three trophies, including the award in the category of best film - comedy or musical for best production.
