Martin Romig

Martin Anthony Romig (born September 8, 1967 in Newton (Massachusetts) ) is a German basketball official . He is the manager of the Bundesliga club Crailsheim Merlins .

career

Romig's parents, who came from Nuremberg , emigrated to Canada before moving on to the United States, where his father, a trained furrier , had taken a job in the fashion industry. Born in Newton  , Massachusetts , Romig grew up as a young child on Long Island , playing baseball and ice hockey before moving to Crailsheim with his parents . He came into contact with basketball through a working group at the Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium in Crailsheim and in 1986 was one of the founding members of the basketball department of TSV Crailsheim . He graduated from the Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium, studied business administration in Nuremberg and ran a sports shop in Crailsheim.

Romig, whose nickname “Präse” goes back to an excursion to France, where he was addressed as the head of the TSV basketball team as president, has played a decisive role in the development of the Crailsheim basketball department since it was founded in 1986, which in addition to the game operations and the advancement of the Basketball also occasionally appeared as a café operator at the Crailsheimer Volksfest. This improved the department's finances and increased awareness. Under Romig as head of department and “doer”, TSV Crailsheim (later Crailsheim Merlins ) worked its way up league by league, in 2001 the team was promoted to the 2nd basketball league  . The first promotion to the basketball league followed in 2014 .

In July 2015, the operation of the professional team was transferred from TSV Crailsheim to the newly founded Crailsheim Merlins GmbH, Romig became the company's managing director. In 2018 the Crailsheimers achieved the second Bundesliga promotion in Romig's tenure.
