Martin Schneider (opera director)

Martin Schneider (born March 5, 1938 in Merseburg ) is a German opera director and former university professor .

Life

Martin Schneider studied music education , German and musicology as well as violin , piano and singing at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg . His teachers included the musicologist Walther Siegmund-Schultze and the music historian Max Schneider . Schneider graduated with a diploma and worked as an editorial assistant at the radio in the GDR . In 1962 Schneider moved to the Komische Oper Berlin as assistant director and evening director . From 1970 he became director of the Komische Oper Berlin and worked among others under Walter Felsenstein , Götz Friedrich and Horst Bonnet . From 1974 onwards, Martin Schneider was the first director of the Halle Opera House and became its director in 1978. Since 1970 guest productions have taken him to other theaters such as the Potsdam Theater , the Dutch Opera Amsterdam and the Cottbus State Theater, as well as on GDR television .

Since 1980 Martin Schneider has been working as a freelance director and university lecturer, including teaching positions at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music and Theater in Leipzig and at the Berlin University of the Arts . Since 1982 Martin Schneider worked at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin , initially as a senior assistant and from 1986 as a lecturer for scenic lessons in the singing department. From 1992 to 2003 he was professor and stage director of the music theater. From 2003 until 2006, Martin Schneider was a lecturer at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin .

Martin Schneider is the father of Christoph Schneider , the drummer of the rock band Rammstein , and of Constanze Schneider , a designer and costume designer. Together with his wife Antje Schneider, he holds reading tours with literary and musical programs.
