Martin Ullmann (agricultural chemist)

Martin Ullmann (born January 3, 1857 in Droskau near Sorau ( Niederlausitz ), † November 3, 1921 in Neckarsulm ) was a German agricultural chemist . From 1893 he headed a research institute founded by the Association of German Fertilizer Manufacturers in Hamburg.

Live and act

Martin Ullmann, son of a pastor, studied agriculture at the University of Halle , received his doctorate as Dr. phil. and since 1883 worked as an agricultural teacher and agricultural consultant in Worbis ( Eichsfeld ) and in Büdingen ( Upper Hesse ). From 1893 he headed the agricultural chemical test and vegetation station in Hamburg-Horn , a research institute of the Association of German Fertilizer Manufacturers .

Ullmann has published the results of the fertilization experiments carried out under his direction and fundamental problems of mineral fertilization in numerous books and writings . His work “ Fertilization Theory and Practice Towards the End of the 19th Century ” (1892, 2nd edition 1895) and the commemorative publicationThe German chemical fertilizer industry ” compiled on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Association of German Fertilizer Manufacturers should be emphasized . (1905).
